I still Wince now!

THE FOOTBALL WORLD CUP STARTS!

Last Friday saw the start of the FIFA World Cup which is being held in South Africa. 32 National sides competing to be crown the World Champions. Played over a month (just over) the early stages comprise of 8 groups of 4 teams. Each team in that group plays each other once and score points for a win or a draw. 3pts for a win and one point for a draw. The top two from those groups then progress on the knock out stages. I love the World cup! Played every four years the teams have to Qualify for the tournament over a 2 year period. I’m glued to the games and I must admit I am a sad-o’ with a wall chart keeping tabs on the score. England played their first game of the tournament last Saturday again the USA! It’s a big thing here. Me mate but on a BBQ and there were about 25 of us all around a TV in his back garden. Few little ales allllways helps with the atmosphere too. Aherm. I was on tea….cough. The result ended in a 1-1 Draw. The English Keeper made a terrible mistake and USA scored a “jammy” goal. Rob Green could not catch a cold let alone a football! Never mind, just one of those things. If I find that goal I will post it. Some players have mumbled about the new ball design and that the flight of it is unpredictable at times. Mmmm…sounds like an excuse to me. Funnily enough the new ball was developed at the University here. Lol! The other thing that’s been getting on my nerves (apart from the standard of English goal keeping) is the Vuvuzela Horns that are blown by the crowd. It sounds awful! It’s just a constant Drone that makes it sound that there is a Bee hive in your TV. It just drowns out the commentary and any atmosphere from the support for the teams. They have talked about banning them but I don’t think they will. England play their next game on Friday night against Algeria. I’m going over to South Africa with me Mittens and I’ll play in goal!
